Peace Sign Appliqué Tutorial
This is a fun project I’ve been wanting to share, and there couldn’t be a better time than now. We could use a little more peace, why not wear it and share it?
This appliqué is super easy and comes together quickly. I’ve provided templates to take the guesswork out of sizing, so you can jump right in and enjoy the process. These shirts also make great gifts for your family and friends. They are simple, meaningful, and handmade with love.
The template download includes detailed sewing instructions, but I’ve also shared step-by-step photos below that you may find helpful.

Make the Templates
Once you’ve cut out the half-circle shapes, I recommend transferring them to cardstock or watercolor paper for added durability. Feel free to make this project your own. You can tape the pieces together if you’d like to use a single print, or add a second layer as I’ve done here in this example.

Cut Your Fabric
For this example, I have layered sherpa underneath the quilting fabric to provide more contrast. This step is completely optional. I traced around the template about 3/8" wider than the template itself. Don’t worry about perfection here.

Position the Fabric and Sew
Fold the sweatshirt in half and press to mark the center. Measure down approximately 3 inches. This marks the top of the circle placement. Since sweatshirts can vary in length, feel free to adjust the placement as needed.
Secure the first layer with fabric glue and basting stitches. I use just a tiny bit of clear Elmer’s glue and set it with an iron for all of my pieces before sewing. If any glue shows through, don’t worry, it washes out easily.
When you’re finished, wash and dry your sweatshirt to let the edges fray naturally. You may need to trim a few longer threads, but after that, your peace sign will be ready to wear proudly!

Inspiration
Making these sweatshirts is addicting! Don't feel guilty if you want to make 10! Here are a few that I have make so far.

I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did. Have fun with it, get creative, and don’t overthink it. Wear your peace wherever you go.
