Moda Block Heads 4: Block 2
Wow, are there only two days in a week when you're doing the Block Heads sew along? I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. If you watch my Instagram stories then you know we stayed home and made pizza! I've been seeing some outstanding blocks in the Facebook group! This is going to be a really fun sewing journey.
Block #2, Cooee, is designed by Jenelle Kent of Pieces To Treasure. She has a fun pillow project that she made with this block you'll have to check out on her blog.
I liked the value arrangement with the darks in the middle. I snuck one of my favorite Garden Society prints in the corner HST's. I'm using mostly Paisley Rose prints from a Fat Eighth bundle, so I really need to press out the creases before I cut my fabric.
Last fall, I finally decided to get a mini iron that I could travel with along with a wool pressing mat. I didn't realize the difference a wool pressing mat could make until I used it. I know....it sounds completely crazy. I promise it's a game changer and I use mine all the time.
A wool mat allows you to iron both sides of the fabric at the same time because it absorbs and releases heat. I can't explain it, there is magic technology is sheep's wool. They come in a variety of sizes. My mat is 14" x 17" which fits next to my sewing machine and on my ironing board. I don't think I'd want one any smaller than that.
So that's my little tip this week that I'd like to share. If you don't currently own a wool pressing mat; I recommend one to iron out your wrinkly fabrics and get crisp flat quilt blocks.
