Introducing Sugar Bear: A Sweet Twist on Tradition with Maeve Fabrics
Today, I'm thrilled to unveil a new quilt pattern that takes a playful spin on the traditional Bear Paw block. Say hello to Sugar Bear—a vibrant, fresh take on a beloved quilting motif, brought to life with the captivating hues of the Maeve collection!
Sugar Bear was inspired by the iconic Bear Paw block, cherished for its timeless appeal and symbolic significance. However, I've infused this classic motif with a sense of whimsy and energy, transforming it into a modern quilt that radiates joy and warmth.
I knew I wanted this brilliant palette as a bed size quilt so I made two size options available for this pattern. The queen size (102" x 102") requires 28 fat quarters or a Maeve fat quarter bundle. Making a throw size is another option if you don't want to make one that big (62" x 82").
Background Fabric & Quilting
The background really makes the colors sing. I used Peacoat Grunge by Basic Grey (30150 353). It has slight variations of navy and purple which complements the Maeve collection perfectly. Becky McCoy quilted this for me and we decided to use magenta thread. It seemed like a bold move but it really brings the quilt together.
I chose the main floral print for the backing, it was the first print designed in the Maeve collection! I hope it brings you just as much joy as it does to me.
