Garden Society Rayon Part 1

The Garden Society Rayons are incredibly soft with a wonderful drape and are perfect for garment sewing. I have a couple samples to share in this post with the Rainbow Patchwork (1189-13R).

Roscoe Blouse & Dress

I think this patchwork print really has a bohemian vibe and I thought the Roscoe Blouse by True Bias was the perfect style for it. It features a gathered neckline and raglan sleeves. The neckline is finished with a center slit and neckties which is a fun little trick to learn if you haven't done that before. This pattern also offers three length versions; so you can make several variations of it.

I've had this pattern for a while but this is the first time I've just made the blouse and I'm so ashamed of myself! It is so comfortable to wear, I really need to get a few more of these made up.

The sewing level for this blouse is advanced beginner. Here are the links for the pattern and sew along.

Saltwater Slip by Friday Pattern Company

I chose the Saltwater Slip Dress by Friday Pattern Company because this design doesn't cut up the print and it's an easy sew! It has adjustable straps that can be layered or worn on its own. The pattern comes with two length options: above the knee, and tea length (with side slits). It also comes with optional side ties to add a bit of waist shaping. Wear this slip over a tee shirt, under a sheer dress, or on its own! It's a wonderful staple to have in your handmade wardrobe.

Over the weekend I was invited to visit a fashion show that Prairie Point Quilt Shop was hosting in Lenexa, Kansas. I thought this was a great idea for any shop that is selling fashion fabrics. The show featured approximately 20 garments from the patterns and fabrics that they carry in the shop. They also included tips and tricks for garment sewing. I found it to be very informative and wish I had that information when I began sewing clothes.

I have a book that goes over a lot of the things they discussed in the fashion show. It would be very helpful to first time garment sewers who might be intimidated. It's called Sew Your Own Wardrobe by Alison Smith.

This book goes over different fabrics, patterns, body measuring, general techniques and how to customize according to your size. It also includes garment patterns that you can download along with great photography.
